I’m Hannah Isles. For five years I was an Associate Editor at Science Immunology, where my job was to read newly submitted manuscripts across the whole of immunology and decide, quickly, which ones went out to peer review.

That work involved recruiting and managing reviewers, overseeing the peer review process, reaching decisions with the wider editorial team, guiding authors through revision and response to reviewer comments, and editing accepted manuscripts for publication. I wrote the Editor’s Summaries that appear with Science Immunology papers and in Science magazine, worked with the press team to translate research for a general audience, and commissioned Review and Focus articles from researchers in the field.

I did my PhD at the University of Sheffield where I studied neutrophil migration and the resolution of inflammation. I then moved to New York City where I studied epigenetic regulation in B cell malignancies at Weill Cornell Medicine. I’ve published as a first author in eLife and Frontiers in Immunology, and I’m a co-author on a 2023 Science paper on B cell competition. My work has been supported by fellowships from the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the NIH.

I’m based in Sheffield, UK, and work with students and researchers, academic and industry, globally.
