How it works

The same process whether you are a researcher, a company or a student, and whatever the document.

  1. Tell me about the project. Email me a description of what you have and what you need. A manuscript heading for submission, a thesis chapter, a white paper, a grant application, a set of results that needs writing up, or something that fits none of those. If a draft already exists, I will want to see it before quoting.

  2. I’ll give you an honest assessment and a fixed price. Including, sometimes, “I don’t think this needs me.” Free, no obligation, and confidential whether or not you go ahead.

  3. We agree scope and dates in writing. Half up front for projects over £1,000, otherwise on delivery.

  4. You get the work back with the reasoning. Not just what I changed, but why, so the next thing you write needs less of me.

  5. One round of follow-up is included on all services, because the questions come after you have read it, not while.

Invoicing

I invoice from Captivated Ltd and can work to a purchase order if your institution or company needs one. Send me the PO number and whatever details your finance office requires, and I’ll put them on the invoice. Payment terms are 30 days from the invoice date unless we agree otherwise.

Confidentiality

Everything you send is treated as confidential, whether that is an unpublished manuscript, a thesis in progress, or commercially sensitive material. That’s the standard I worked to as an editor and it doesn’t change now. I’m happy to sign your institution’s or your company’s non-disclosure agreement.
